Beemster Heritage
World Record Cheese 2006
Alkmaar, The Netherlands - October 6th 2006
Usually at this location history is recreated with the re-enactment of the cheese markets; however, at October 6th 2006 Beemster was creating history. At noon, a horse drawn wagon came into the historic cheese market carrying a cheese created July 7th, 2006.
The crowd watched intensely as the forklift got into position to remove the cheese from the horse drawn wagon. The enormous wheel was carefully lowered onto the traditional custom’s house scales.
The representative from the Guinness Book of World Records stood by as weights were added to the scale to bring the wheel of cheese off of the ground to an equilibrium on the historic scale.
Here, the official customs notary announced the official weight of the single cheese at 600,6 Kilograms (1,323 lbs), 6 ft wide! A new world record!
